XL5: Edit Link Command Unavailable for Embedded Chart

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SUMMARY

When you select an embedded chart that is linked to a closed worksheet and then choose the ChartWizard, you will receive the following error message:

   This chart plots data from a closed worksheet. Use the Links
   command on the Edit menu to open the source workbook.

When you attempt to click the Links menu item on the Edit menu, it is unavailable (dimmed).

To enable the Links command, double-click the chart to activate it, and then click Links on the Edit menu.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the linked workbook is closed, ChartWizard is not functional.
