Q108250
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 2.0c-CD, 6.0
SYMPTOMS
Word 2.0 for Windows, Publisher 2.0 for Windows, and Works for Windows can use the Word 6.0 for Windows/Macintosh converter to read Word 6.0 for Windows documents. However, these programs cannot use the converter to save files in Word 6.0 format. If you attempt to save as Word 6.0 format, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Word is unable to save Word for Windows 6.0 files. The converter for this format is only capable of opening files.
WORKAROUND
If you want to provide a Word 2.0, Publisher 2.0, or Works for Windows document to a Word 6.0 for Windows user, save the file in your program's default format, and provide that file to the Word 6.0 user. That user can then open the document in Word 6.0, provided he or she has the appropriate file converter installed.
