The STFSETUP.IN_ file is a text file that can be edited with any text editor, including the Microsoft Windows Notepad editor.

Method 1

The first method of opening the STFSETUP.IN_ file for editing is to create a file association for the STFSETUP.IN_ file that will automatically open the file in the Notepad text editor.

The following example demonstrates how to create a file association for files with .IN_ extensions:

  1. Start the Microsoft Windows File Manager.
  2. From the File menu, choose Associate.
  3. Type "IN_" (without the quotation marks) in the Files With Extension box.
  4. Type "notepad.exe" (without the quotation marks) in the Associate With box, and then choose OK.

To edit the STFSETUP.IN_ file you can either:

  • Double-click the STFSETUP.IN_ file in the File Manager. -or-
  • Choose Run from the File Manager or Program Manager's File menu, and then type the full path and filename for the .IN_ file.

Method 2

The second method of opening the STFSETUP.IN_ file for editing is to create an icon for the STFSETUP.IN_ file in the Microsoft Windows Program Manager.

The following example demonstrates how to create an icon for the STFSETUP.IN_ file:

  1. Open or create the Program Manager group in which you want to create the new icon.
  2. From the Program Manager's File menu, choose New.
  3. Choose Item, and then choose OK.
  4. Type "notepad.exe" (without the quotation marks), followed by the full path and filename for the STFSETUP.IN_ file in the Command Line box. For example, you might type the following in the Command Line box:

          notepad.exe C:\APPSETUP\DISK1\STFSETUP.IN_
  5. Choose OK.

To edit the STFSETUP.IN_ file, double-click the new icon. NOTE: The Notepad editor is used as an example throughout this article because it is included with Microsoft Windows. However, you can use any text editor in its place. If you do use the Notepad editor, the following limitations should be observed:

  • Text files opened by Notepad should not be larger than 45K.
  • Notepad will not continue editing a text file that exceeds 45K during the editing process.
