Word Adds Styles to Style Sheets in Converted Documents

PSS ID Number: Q105903 Article last modified on 01-24-1995

====================================================================== 6.00 MS-DOS kbother

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Word for Windows, Word for the Macintosh, or RTF document in Word for MS-DOS and attach a style sheet, whatever styles were used in the converted document will automatically be added to the newly attached style sheet. However, Word does not let you know that any changes have been made to the style sheet. Even when you close it, Word will not ask you if you want to save changes made to the style sheet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 for MS-DOS. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

If you run the converter on the file that you want to open in Word, outside of Word, it will let you know that there are new styles in your document and it will ask you if you want them added to the style sheet you are attaching.

If you open a document that has been formatted with styles in Word without attaching a style sheet, the style formats will be converted into direct formatting.
