Article ID: 105725

Article Last Modified on 11/1/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1

This article was previously published under Q105725

SYMPTOMS

Internet fire wall gateways are configured to disallow remote TCP connection requests from systems using non-reserved ports. The Windows NT FTP service is bound to a wild card port when connecting to the client, which fails in these scenarios. On the client side, any commands like LS or GET appear to make your computer stop responding (hang) or eventually time-out.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
