The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Arcade - Microsoft Bob versions 1.0, 1.0a - Microsoft Encarta for Windows, 1994 edition

The applications listed at the top of this article may not run or may stop responding (hang) when a PC waveform driver called DSOUND is installed. This driver is installed by many applications, one of which is Talking Icons by Aristosoft.

You may also receive the following error message:

No wave device that can play files in the current format is installed.

When you double-click the program’s icon, the hour glass appears, followed by a buzzing sound and a flash on the screen, and then Windows fails to open the program group.

The following procedure describes how to remove the DSOUND driver:

  1. Open Control Panel from the Main group, or by choosing Run from the File menu in Program Manager and typing the word “control” (without the quotation marks) in the Command Line box.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click the Drivers icon.
  3. From the list of Installed Drivers, select the DSOUND driver and then choose the Remove button.
  4. Restart Windows.

The DSOUND driver is now removed from the Windows environment.
