The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

In Microsoft Excel, to manipulate chart gridlines, use the Format Gridlines dialog box. To display this dialog box, double-click any gridline or select a gridline and choose Selected Gridlines from the Format menu.

The Format Gridlines dialog box contains a Scale tab and a Patterns tab. The Scale tab is the same tab that is displayed when you double-click the axis that a particular gridline corresponds to. If you double-click the y axis so that the Format Axis dialog box appears, the Scale tab in this dialog box contains the same information as the Scale tab that is displayed when you double-click the horizontal gridlines. The vertical gridlines correspond to the x axis.
