Saving from Publisher Version 2.0 Is Slower Than Version 1.0

------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a ------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= When saving documents from Microsoft Publisher version 2.0, you may find that the time required to complete the save has increased compared to a similar document being saved from Publisher version 1.0. This increase is due, in part, to OLE version 2.0 (an object-linking- and-embedding utility that comes with Publisher. Other contributing factors may include saving with a preview and saving with a backup. MORE INFORMATION ================ The following guidelines may be used in determining a general idea of how much longer it should take to save a document from Publisher version 2.0 as compared to a similar document from Publisher version 1.0. They may not be applicable with respect to the change in file size if you're looking at WordArt 1.0 objects in Publisher 1.0 being converted to WordArt 2.0 objects in Publisher 2.0 (because WordArt 2.0 is much more complicated and is of a much higher quality). In general, an average WordArt 1.0 object becomes 10-15 times larger when it's converted to WordArt 2.0. (Creating a WordArt 2.0 object from scratch results in an identical size increase when compared to a like object created in WordArt 1.0). The above values are much more applicable when using the same class of objects between Publisher version 1.x documents and Publisher version 2.0 documents. When saving with a preview, the file size should grow by 5 to 6K and require an additional three seconds to one minute to complete (depending on the complexity of the first page). In some circumstances the time to save with a preview may increase substantially more than this. For example, if the first page contains a large 24-bit bitmap, the save could take 10 to 15 minutes longer. Additional query words: 2.00 mspub slow slower slowest saving save 2.00a
