PSS ID Number: Q103311 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

====================================================================== 5.00 5.10 MACINTOSH kbole

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0 and 5.1

SYMPTOMS

A blank space may result when you use the Paste Link/Paste Special command to link information into a file (the destination). This problem may occur if the name of the source document of the copied information begins with a number (for example, 1TEST or 8TH TEST CASE). Typically, the first Paste Link/Paste Special command will work as expected but subsequent links will fail.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh versions 5.0, and 5.1. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh version 6.0.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this problem, rename the document so that the filename does not begin with a number. Subsequent copy-paste links using the renamed document will work correctly.
