“Intermediate .STEXT File Cannot Be Opened” Error

Summary: The .STEXT file is a temporary file used by the compiler to hold intermediate compiler output. If you receive the undocumented “Intermediate .STEXT file cannot be opened” error, it usually means there is insufficient disk space to complete the compilation. The compiler creates two work files as it compiles, which are later deleted. This error may also indicate that the CONFIG.SYS file does not contain the following statement: FILES=20. In this case, the CONFIG.SYS file should be created or modified to contain this statement and the machine rebooted to start up with this new configuration.
