ERR: Not a Database File in FoxBASE+/Mac
Last reviewed: April 17, 1995
Article ID: Q102457
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FoxBASE+ for the Macintosh, version 2.01
SYMPTOMS
When you open a FoxBASE+/Mac database, the error message "Not a database file" is returned.
CAUSE
The database was probably subjected to an abnormal shutdown caused by a system error. If a large RAM cache (over 64K) is used, corruption is more likely to occur when a system error is experienced.
RESOLUTION
The following are three possible resolutions:
Attempt to recover the corrupted database (back up the corrupted database first).
Open the database in FoxBASE+ for MS-DOS. FoxBASE+ for MS-DOS can sometimes open databases when other products cannot. Decrease the size of the RAM cache to prevent future corruptions.
If you know the database structure, create a new database with the same structure, and then use the following command to import the corrupted database.
APPEND FROM <corrupted database> TYPE SDF
