Draw: Choosing Font Command Does Not Open the Font List

Q102413

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Draw, version 1.0
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.0a, 3.1, 3.11

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Draw, if you use your mouse to choose the Font command on the Text menu, the font list may flash quickly and then return the focus to the main window. This problem occurs when you run Draw version 1.0 under Windows version 3.x.

CAUSE

The font list is a cascading menu. If the font list contains a large number of fonts, this menu may partially or completely cover the Text menu. If the font list appears over the position on the screen where you clicked the mouse, it receives the focus until the mouse button is released, at which time it closes. Because you release the mouse button before the font list even appears, the font list closes immediately after it is opened. It appears to flash on and then quickly disappear. On fast computers, the font list may flash so quickly that it seems as if it did not display at all.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click the Font command and do not release the mouse button. Drag the mouse to the font you want to use, then release the mouse button. The font list is displayed until you release the mouse button. An alternative workaround is to use keyboard commands to choose the Font command and open the font list.
