SUMMARY

Windows NT does not cache (store in a file on the local hard disk) passwords for persistent connections to share-level security servers. Therefore, when you logon to Windows NT, you are prompted for a password for each password-protected connection to a share-level server. Windows NT prompts for the passwords to comply with C2 level security.

In contrast, because Microsoft Windows for Workgroups caches the passwords into a file, it does not prompt you for passwords when it reconnects persistent network connections.
