SYMPTOMS
In a directory window in File Manager, a file does not have the correct icon that indicates it is a document even though it has a filename extension that corresponds to a document.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Registry includes a four-letter filename extension in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT subtree. Due to a bug in File Manager, it stops searching after it processes a four-letter (or longer) filename extension.
RESOLUTION
In the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT subtree, remove any four-letter (or longer) filename extensions.
CAUTION: Filename extensions are always prefixed with a period (.). Key names not prefixed with a period are not file extensions; do not delete them.
