Text in Underlying Table Not Visible Through Transparent Table

Text in Underlying Table Not Visible Through Transparent Table

Q101134

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you format a table as "clear" and layer it on top of an opaque
table, the text in the bottom table does not show through. If the
opaque bottom table is framed with a border, the border shows through,
but the text does not. For the text to show through the top table, you
must format the bottom table to be "clear" as well.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 2.0.
We are researching this problem and will post new information here in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
==========================

1. Create two tables.

2. Format one table as transparent by selecting the cells, choosing
   Shading from the Format menu, and selecting the Clear shading box
   (the top-left box) from the Style group box.

3. Format the other table as opaque white and enter some text in the
   cells.

4. Layer the transparent table over the opaque table.

The text in the bottom table does not show through, even though the
table on top is transparent.

To cause the text in the bottom table to show through, format the
bottom table as transparent, too.
