HOWTO: Retrieve Win32-based Executable File (PE) Header Info

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual C++, 32-bit Edition, versions 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

The EXEHDR program displays the information in the executable file header for applications developed for the MS-DOS, OS/2, and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The following command retrieves PE (Portable Executable) header information for a Win32-based executable file (.EXE or .DLL filename extension) named <filename>:

   dumpbin -headers <filename>

To obtain information about exported and imported symbols, use one of the following commands:

   dumpbin -exports <filename>
   dumpbin -imports <filename>
