Lotus 1-2-3

Lotus 1-2-3 is a discontinued spreadsheet program from Lotus Software (later bought by IBM). Lotus solution marketed as a three-in-one solution, which handled spreadsheet calculations, database functionality and graphical charts.

History

Lotus 1-2-3 was released on 26 January 1983 by Lotus Development Company. It immediately overtook VisiCalc in sales. It was cleanly programmed and relatively bug-free, gained soeed frin being written completely in x86 assembly language and wrote directly to video memory rather than use the slow DOS and/or BIOS output text functions. It was ported to numerous platforms.

The initial release of 1-2-3 supported only three video setups, CGA, MDA (in which case graph maker was not available) or dual monitor mode. A few months later support for Hercules video card was added.
