: I know. I'm protecting them to prevent vandalism. 18:08, 9 July 2021 (BST)
: That does not mean that you need to protect every page. The risk of vandalism in a wiki like this is quite low - only the most user-facing templates (such as the ones that transclude the main page) should have any level of protection. X010 (talk) 19:29, 9 July 2021 (BST)
macOS (formerly Mac OS X) is an operating system for Apple Macintosh computers, first released to the public on March 24, 2001, developed by Apple. It is the successor to Mac OS 9, hence the X signifying both its Unix roots and the major release version number 10. As mentioned by Apple, Wikipedia, and others, it is said as Mac OS 10. It shares none of the "Classic" Mac OS design, and is completely rewritten and uses Next frameworks, a hybrid XNU/Mach kernel, and a BSD subsystem dubbed "Darwin". While underlying components of OS X are free/open source software, the top layers, such as the Aqua UI, are proprietary; Darwin packages can be downloaded and compiled from the Apple Open Source website to make a bootable OS.

Mac OS X has been built for three different architectures and four platforms during its release cycle to date. The first six releases (10.0.0-10.5.8) were designed for the PowerPC architecture, adding 64-bit PowerPC support as an additional platform for the G5 in 10.3 Panther. Intel (x86) support started with 10.4.4 Tiger, and was built as a universal release for both PowerPC/x86 with 10.5 Leopard, which finally dropped all G3 support. Since 10.6, PowerPC support is non-existent/dropped, and Mac OS X is currently designed for Mac computers with Intel 32-bit (x86) and Intel 64-bit (x86_64) architectures. AMD is not currently officially supported. Starting with 10.7 "Lion", Mac OS X is now referred to simply as "OS X".

The "iPhone OS" or iOS, which powers the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad is a direct descendant of OS X, and shares its design and many internal frameworks. The previous version of OS X is "Yosemite" (10.10), released on October 16, 2014. The latest version is 12.2.1.
System 0.97
/System 0.97/
System 1.1d
An update to 0.97, had slight changes but is otherwise the same. The most common version of pre-System 6 OS'es.

System 1.1g
This version came up on 2 disks packed with developing / debugging software. This used to be a rare version until it was later leaked on BetaArchive.

System 1.1h
System 2.x
Technically the same as System 1.1, yet has several bug fixes.

System 6
System 6 was released in April 1988. Cooperative multitasking made its Macintosh debut in March 1985 with a program called Switcher, which allowed the user to launch multiple applications and switch between them. However, many programs and features did not function correctly with Switcher, and it did not come with the operating system, so it had to be acquired from Apple separately. System 6 featured a much more seamless approach called MultiFinder. MultiFinder originally debuted with System 5 (System file 4.2 / Finder 6.0). Multitasking under System 6 was optional — startup could be set to Finder or MultiFinder. If MultiFinder was selected, the Finder and its functions continued to run when an application was launched. The MultiFinder environment allowed users to see past the windows of running applications to view Finder icons such as the Trash, or the windows of other applications running in the background.

Mac OS
Mac OS 7
Mac OS 7 (codenamed Big Bang) was initially released in May 1991.

Versions 7.0 through 7.1.1 worked only on the 68k platform. Later, version 7.1.2 added support for PowerPC processors.

Copland
Copland was the codename for an unreleased Mac OS version that was intended to be the modernized successor to Mac OS 7.

The Copland project started in March 1994 and was eventually cancelled in August 1996.

Mac OS 8
Mac OS 8 (codenamed Tempo) was released on the 26th of July 1997.

Initially, the early beta releases of the product which were circulated to developers and Apple internal audiences, were branded as Mac OS 7.7 (superseding the current release, Mac OS 7.6). Afterwards, the software was later renamed to Mac OS 8 before the final release.
The first two releases of Mac OS 8 can run on Motorola 68k processors, however version 8.5 dropped support for the 68k platform, only supporting PowerPC-based models.

Mac OS 9
Mac OS 9 (codenamed Sonata) was released on the 23th of October 1999. Its development had been discontinued in May 2002.

There are few 68k Macintosh emulators available today, which have been ported to various platforms and operating systems.

One of them is a PowerPC emulator called "SheepShaver", which runs Mac OS 7.1.2 through 9.0.4, and has been ported to various operating systems. The reason Mac OS 9.1 and up won't run in SheepShaver is that SheepShaver lacks a Memory Management Unit emulator, something that the last few Mac OS releases need.
There are few 68k Macintosh emulators available today, which have been ported to various platforms and operating systems.

One of them is a PowerPC emulator called "SheepShaver", which runs Mac OS 7.1.2 through 9.0.4, and has been ported to various operating systems. The reason Mac OS 9.1 and up won't run in SheepShaver is that SheepShaver lacks a Memory Management Unit emulator, something that the last few Mac OS releases need.
macOS (formerly Mac OS X) is an operating system for Apple Macintosh computers, first released to the public on March 24, 2001, developed by Apple.

System software
BYTE build
Screenshots of this build were shown in the BYTE magazine in 1984. It has a black default background and has the Arrange menu.

System 0.85
/System 0.85/

OS X 10.10 "Yosemite" is a version of Mac OS X, released on October 16, 2014. It was announced at the 2014 WWDC, and is currently available for free download from the Mac App Store for all users. Yosemite is perhaps the largest change to Mac OS since the release of 10.0 itself, with a completely redesigned Aqua UI inspired by the translucent "Glass" design of iOS 7, new icons, Continuity, Spotlight 2, and other large-scale changes.

__TOC__

New design
Apple has redesigned OS X Yosemite. It is still called Aqua. The look is now more flat, but still retains some original Aqua look to make it more user friendly. Apple has also introduced transparancy. Everything underneath is blurred like in Windows Aero. The sidebar of the finder is transparent. The topbar in Safari shows whats underneath. Menus are transparent too.
I don't think we need to do them for most. X010 (talk) 16:22, 9 July 2021 (BST)
:: Well, that would make sense. No user has been registered there since two weeks, and many users aren't either even contributing and all vandals have been already blocked. ToMi1 (talk) 19:57, 9 July 2021 (BST)
*Aero is in Windows 8. But not in the exact form we know it from earlier Windows versions. It has been redesigned to better fit Metro. Yes, the glass is gone, but that's because Microsoft wanted to remove it, but transparency is still in the taskbar. Window animations aren't in any way related to Aero, they're rendered by DWM. And, window colors? This is still in Windows 8.

*They kept Windows Classic for the Server family up to Server 2008 R2 as the default theme because of speed and stability. Not because of familiarity...
*I mentioned the window animations and colors because they are part of the Windows Aero article. My question for you, is, should a visually distinct third-party theme (for example) be classified as Windows Aero, simply because it is rendered by the Desktop Window Manager? If not, why should a first-party theme be? Directing your attention to the Creating the Windows 8 user experience article, which states the following: "In the end, we decided to bring the desktop closer to the Metro aesthetic, while preserving the compatibility afforded by not changing the size of window chrome, controls, or system UI. We have moved beyond Aero Glass—flattening surfaces, removing reflections, and scaling back distracting gradients." and "Aero was designed to help the app’s content to be the center of attention, and for the Windows system UI to recede into the background. This is still relevant today, and while we are moving beyond Aero, we don’t want to lose sight of these goals." Clearly then, to Microsoft, Aero is defined by its characteristics such as translucency, reflections, complex textures, etc.

*Even if Windows Classic was set as the default theme for speed and stability, almost certainly, familiarity was a factor in that decision, as it gives the look and behavior of previous versions. At the time, weren't visual styles (such as Luna) fairly new to Windows?
Directory listing from a fresh Windows 8 install. Also, I only said about DWM that the window animations aren't related to Aero as they're managed by DWM.

* It's your opinion. I asked few people, and they've said that it's because of speed and less used resources. We really can't talk about familiarity when talking about default theme for Windows Server. For the same reason, Linux server operating systems such as Ubuntu Server don't include X server by default. Again, because of speed and less used resources.

Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) was released on 26 October 2007. Leopard was supposed to be released in 2006, but it was delayed due to the launch of the iPhone. It is the first version of Mac OS X to drop support for G3 systems and introduces a new version of Aqua that Apple would use until Snow Leopard. It is also the last version of Mac OS X to have support for Intel Pentium 4 processors, though this can only be seen with Hackintosh models as no retail Macs shipped with Pentium 4s. The Universal Binary concept was extended in Leopard, as the separate builds for Intel and PowerPC Macs were unified in Leopard and installation media could be used for either system. The first 64-bit Mac applications were designed for Leopard due to a new 64-bit userland (the kernel remained 32-bit until Snow Leopard).

Features
* New unified UI with an iTunes-like design
* Core Animation - An API allowing for keyframe animation in the OS X UI
* 64-bit userland and system libraries
* 3D Dock with support for Stacks
* Spaces - a multi-workspace manager
* Time Machine - a backup utility
* Safari 3 with support for WebClips
* Updated Finder with multithread support
* Quick Look - Allows previewing files in Finder without launching an app
The first 64-bit Mac applications were designed for Leopard due to a new 64-bit userland (the kernel remained 32-bit until Snow Leopard).
I have questions about your recent changes made to the Windows Visual Styles, and Windows Classic articles.

*Technically speaking, Windows Aero is not included in Windows 8. Aero, as defined by Microsoft, "features a translucent glass design with subtle window animations and new window colors."

*Although using Windows Classic does offer performance benefits, why didn't you just add to what was written instead of deleting it?

I have questions about your recent changes made to the Windows Visual Styles, and Windows Classic articles.

*Technically speaking, Windows Aero is not included in Windows 8. Aero, as defined by Microsoft, "features a translucent glass design with subtle window animations and new window colors."

*Although using Windows Classic does offer performance benefits, why didn't you just add to what was written instead of deleting it?

*Aero is in Windows 8. But not in the exact form we know it from earlier Windows versions. It has been redesigned to better fit Metro. Yes, the glass is gone, but that's because Microsoft wanted to remove it, but transparency is still in the taskbar. Window animations aren't in any way related to Aero, they're rendered by DWM. And, window colors? This is still in Windows 8.

*They kept Windows Classic for the Server family up to Server 2008 R2 as the default theme because of speed and stability. Not because of familiarity...
--AlphaBeta (talk) 07:07, 8 June 2013 (GMT)

----
*I mentioned the window animations and colors because they are part of the Windows Aero article.

We really can't talk about familiarity when talking about default theme for Windows Server. == Simulation ==

The insider Nara in BetaWiki, wants to simulate and reference me so make a suffix ‘66’ and this can find in DistroWiki, please remind him as soon as possible. I notify you because I’m the only user with the suffix ‘66’ in username. I know I was wrong, and I shouldn't argue with him, so you were right to block me on BetaWiki. songnaixue(talk) 12:55, 22 January 2022 (GMT)
Songnaixuehttps://www.betaarchive.com/wiki/index.php?title=Google_Chrome&diff=453475Google Chrome2022-01-21T13:55:55Z
Songnaixue:

Google Chrome is a web browser by Google, initially released on the 2 September 2008 for Windows. It was based on the WebKit rendering engine, but Google forked it in 2013 to become the Blink engine. All variants of Chrome except for the iOS variant now use the Blink engine. The WebKit engine is still used in the iOS variant, due to restrictions in the App Store’s policies.

Usage
Since late 2009, Google Chrome has surpassed Safari in usage and became the third most used browser worldwide with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox in the lead. As of December 2010, the Google Chrome browser was used by 13.35% of the world.
