Vista Resources?

Post by empireum »

Hello,

I'm looking for the Vista resources and bitmaps, in particular for the version banner shown in the About Windows dialog, for example. I've looked in the usual files (winbrand.dll, shell32.dll, explorer.exe, user32.dll and so on) but they aren't there. Does anybody know where MS has hidden them?

Microsoft has stored some of these files in the *.mui files located in similar locations to *.exe files. In the system32 folder they are located in the computer named versions of your language (such as en-us for English) and so on.

Thanks

edit: I looked in some of the *.mui files, none of them contained any bitmaps.

I looked in several files that were good candidates for them in the predecessors of Vista, but I found just their, i.e. pre-Vista, "about" bitmaps.

those Bitmaps are in C:\Windows\Branding\

shellbranding.dll and basebranding.dll
