Installing Windows 8 build 7792

Post by AlfCraft07 »

I noticed that Windows 8 build 7792 for ARM32 was leaked recently. Similarly to build 8061, this build has HALs just for the Tegra 2 and OMAP3 SOCs, and looking at its install image, it’s mostly incomplete (for example, missing explorer). Out of curiosity, would it be possible to know if it can be installed on QEMU or at least the Surface RT?

8061 had HALs for Nvidia Tegra 3, while 7792 has for OMAP 3/Tegra 2 Development Kit. The Surface RT has a Tegra 3, so you can't run this build on it.

I don't like Windows 10/11. I like (best to 4th best): 7, 8.1, Vista, and XP.

So it appears that someone has gotten this build to boot. It's actually very similar to Windows 7, but it's very unstable and Aero does not work. Hope to see that fully working in the near future.

Yep, lots of other things don't work either like calculator, thumbnails, and just some simple things can cause issues - but it is a very early ARM32 build, so I guess it is expected.
