Windows NT 3.1 build 347 boot problem

Post by dccw »

I'm trying to install Windows NT 3.1 build 347. After extracting all the files using the batch file, Windows failed to boot. How to boot Windows NT 3.1 build 347?

The disk isn't bootable. If you have installed it, remove the floppy disk.

I don't like Windows 10/11. I like (best to 4th best): 7, 8.1, Vista, and XP.

I've removed all floppy disks, but the vm didn't boot using ntldr.

Install DOS 6.22 first before installing this build.

DOS 5.0 would be better. MS-DOS 6.21/6.22 were just patches for DOS 6.0: DoubleSpace disk compression tool was removed in 6.21 and replaced with DriveSpace in 6.22. Also, 6.x versions were released much later then NT 3.1 build 247 was compiled.

you need to use DOS2NT to copy NT 347 to harddisk and boot to continue setup.

This is odd, since build 340 didn't use DOS2NT.

but 347 is just a DOS2NT dump, it doesn't come with txtsetup.inf and setupapp.exe.

Actually, this build is from a compiler output and it's got txtsetup.inf and setupapp.exe too (the latter as txtsetup.exe).
