Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger in VMware?

Post by thepwrtank18 »

I'm using VMware Workstation 17.5.2, build-23775571. I used paolo-projects' unlocker to allow OS X VM's to be created and used, and then this EFI unlocker to allow 10.5 and 10.6 to boot: https://github.com/thepwrtank18/efi-unlocker

With a 10.4.10 retail (as in not modded, the only true retail discs were PowerPC only) ISO with the SHA1 file hash 3028767e27f93d9fdb009bb894e81eb6b58ea27b, I simply get the following when trying to boot:

Any way to get 10.4.11 to work? Here's the VMX file:

Code: Select all

Turns out that you need the following lines in the VMX file:

Code: Select all

hw.model = "MacBookPro3,1"
cpuid.1.eax = "00000000000000000000011011111010"
cpuid.2.eax = "00000101101100001011000100000001"
cpuid.2.ebx = "00000000010101100101011111110000"
cpuid.2.ecx = "00000000000000000000000000000000"
cpuid.2.edx = "00101100101101000011000001001000"
And there's a maximum of 3 GB of RAM. Any more than 3 gigabytes and it won't run.

The first version of OS X for Intel processors was 10.4.4.

https://archive.org/details/MacBook_Pro ... _Inc._2007 (Disc 1) and https://archive.org/details/691-6113-A2 ... 0_2007_DVD (Disc 2), respectively. Other disc images will need you to change the hw.model to what's it's made for.

I have not gotten vmsvga2 (https://github.com/d3vi1/VMsvga2-Darwin-Tiger) to work, it just gives an installation error when putting the kext file in, removing the caches, repairing drive perms in Disk Utility, and rebooting.
