Compaq Portable III: Original DOS version?

Post by John Elliott »

Does anyone know what version of MSDOS was originally supplied with the Compaq Portable III / Portable 386?

What's mainly piquing my curiosity is: If it was based on MSDOS 3.3, then DISPLAY.SYS should be able to support switchable codepages on the built-in LCD panel. But I think it would need a custom version of DISPLAY.SYS and maybe custom CPI files too. If you use stock PCDOS, then you can get switchable codepages using LCD.CPI but the characters are only 8 pixels high in a 16-pixel character cell.

Code: Select all

DEVICE=A:\DOS\DISPLAY.SYS CON=(LCD,437,1)

MODE CON CP PREPARE=((850) A:\DOS\LCD.CPI)
MODE CON CP SELECT=850
