How to install Windows Longhorn Build 4048.idx02.030925-1900?

Post by Lakshay324545 »

So I tried installing Windows Longhorn Build [4048.idx02.030925-1900] in VMware Workstation with Hardware Compatibility set to (v6.5.x-7.x). However, when it reaches the second stage of setup it BSODs with (Unknown Hard Error) everytime. Anyone know a fix? I'm trying to install this build using the .wim method.

What .wim method? Do you mean deploying the image with DISM?

It should be ximage for Longhorn, use this to release WIM to the hard disk (dism should be at 53xx to be recognized properly)

Nope I meant installing the build through the incomplete ISO which was shared by grabberslasher.

Same profile photos? This could get confusing *hehe*

Anyhow, that won't work, as it's missing a ton of the image. You need to use an i386 repack that's had the missing files replaced from another build. Not original, but the best we can do. I've detailed that here: viewtopic.php?p=472716

It can work, although be warned that the install can still be unstable, slow, or crashy. A lot of people have failed doing the same process I did, including myself even. It's possible though.
I collect old laptops and mess with old software.

Thanks for letting me know! This is the last Longhorn Pre-Reset build which I cannot install.
