Windows Longhorn build 4074 explorer windows won't draw after enabling Aero

The title is self-explainitory, but Explorer Windows won't draw after I set MILExplorer to 1. The 4074 version is "The Way It Was Meant To Be", running VMWare version 16, hardware compatbility 14.x. If I try to focus on the explorer Windows, nothing will happen. I can't even redraw it, because it's fully transparent.

Does it work on the compatbility mode? I don't want to downgrade VMWare versions.

Do I have to downgrade to version 12 just to enable Aero?

Set VM's Compatibility to v6.5.x-7.x and then it should work. Setting the Hardware Compatibility to v14 won't work as mentioned by dixieLH.

If you want to know "How to create a Custom Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation" then follow these steps:
1. Click on "Create a Virtual Machine".
2. Select the type to be "Custom (Advanced)".

VM > Manage > Change Hardware Compatibility

You'll need to change the compatibility version, cause it won't work perfectly when you use the newest compatibility for everything. Some operating systems need older compatibility versions for it to work properly.
