Problem with DiscImageCreator

Post by Jeppo »

Hi.

I'm trying to use DiscImageCreator with my ASUS BW-16D1HT.
The DIC_20201231_BA package is used, but no success. I also tried a newer version of DiscImageCreator.

My drive is flashed to 3.02 DE as per wiki.redump.org.
I get the following error on all cds:

Code: Select all

LBA[000000, 0000000]: [F:ReadCDForCheckingSubQ1stIndex][L:854]
        Opcode: 0xd8
        ScsiStatus: 0x02 = CHECK_CONDITION
        SenseData Key-Asc-Ascq: 05-20-00 = ILLEGAL_REQUEST - INVALID COMMAND OPERATION CODE
lpCmd: d8, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 01, 02, 00
dwBufSize: 2448
EndTime: 2022-05-19T13:43:04+0200
Does someone know how to solve this?

What are you trying to dump? A CD or DVD? You can't use DIC on CDs unless your reader is supported, however it should work just fine with DVDs.

I'm trying to dump CD games.

From https://github.com/saramibreak/DiscImageCreator:
Recommend drive
CD: (Drives must be able to dump by scrambled mode and read lead-out and read lead-in).
...
ASUS
BC-12D2HT (Combined offset minus disc only), BW-16D1HT (ditto)
BW-16D1HT Firmware 3.02 supports the combined offset plus disc
See also http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= ... extor_ODDs
...
As far as I can see, it's compatible. I also checked the label on the drive. It is a 90DD0200-B20010 model, as noted as compatible on http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= ... extor_ODDs

Hi, from my experience:
dumping CDs with Asus is experimental. Use newer DIC version (for example latest).
Command to dump is also different, as Asus doesnt support d8 mode like Plextors. I use parameters /c2 50 /mr 20. And it should be used only for Mode 1 discs with offset higher than +6 (it throws errors otherwise).

Thank you for the info.
I found a Plextor PX-W5224TA on eBay for 70 euros. I will be using this drive instead for CDs.

Why not use A120 to dump CDs?

And why not use DIC to do a better dump? We do rather want clean DIC dumps, A120 is only a fallback if you have a drive that doesn't support DIC. If someone wants to invest into making proper dumps then it's all better for everyone.
