The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
When I first saw Windows 11 minimum requirements I was upset. Under no circumstances, I didn't want to switch from CSM to UEFI, since I have Windows 3.x/9x, NT & Win 10 all working on my Ryzen 3900X system.
But since the UEFI/TPM thing can now be easily bypassed I ran Windows 11 on a Intel QX6850 3Ghz (65nm, 2007) matched with an Intel G41 motherboard (2008) and a ATI HD4350 also 2008. (with Win 10 drivers from 2015)
I think you can go much lower than this, I will do some testing.
On what hardware did you install Win 11?

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I have it running on a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop from 2009. Specs are as follows:
2.2GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR2 RAM
Integrated graphics
120GB Kingston A400 SSD
Legacy BIOS Only
No TPM
It runs very well, mainly due to the SSD. It only gets bogged down when the CPU becomes a bottleneck, for example, running a bunch of browser tabs at once or something.
The oldest computer I own that I think I could get it running on is my Late 2006 MacBook, anything older that I have is either 32-bit or PPC-64 which definitely won't run Windows 11

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I installed it on Pentium 4 631 system. It runs without any problem. And even Radeon X600(DirectX 9.0b, 2066) works fine with modified driver. Seems like Win11's 'real' hardware requirements are exactly same as Win10.

I just realized that my Dell Dimension E510 with a Pentium D is actually 64-bit...
theoretically I could run windows 11 on it. Should I try?

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
If I leave out the fact that your multi-boot setup is ridiculous and likely underperforming compared to setting up a period-accurate configuration in an emulator like 86Box, you can still use both CSM and UEFI boot with two separate disks, one formatted with MBR and the other formatted with GPT.
Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I was running it on an old Compaq PC and it worked well except for a lot of lags.

Thinkcentre M58p, Type 7220, dualbooted with Windows 7 32-bit, from which I'm typing on right now:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00 GHz)
2 GB of DDR3 RAM (PC3-8500F), dual-channel (2x1 GB, slots 1 and 3)
Q45/Q43 iGPU, set to 32 MB
250 GB HDD (7200 RPM)
Legacy BIOS
No TPM support of any kind
You may delete the Antimalware Service Executable file (MsMpEng.exe) as the file uses a lot of memory.

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
The guys from german winhistory forum are currently trying to find the weakest, oldest hardware to run Windows 11 on it (by manipulating the setup checks for sure):
https://www.winhistory-forum.net/showth ... #pid596083
Intel Atom 330 is currently the winner. Or Sempron 3400+

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I have been using windows 11 as my daily driver since release day.
Ryzen 3 1200
MSI B450 Gaming plus
16 GB DDR4 Ram
GTX 970
No issues what so ever and regular updates. Seems Microsoft HW requirements are a bit of a sham.

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
If you're going to say "the oldest", here's what I've ran Windows 11 on in the past as a daily driver:
A Dell Vostro 5459 with a core i5-6200u, 4GB of RAM, 480GB of SSD storage, and a Intel Graphics 520 with an NVIDIA GeForce 930. Pretty old at it's best, and since the requirements are just garbage, I just skipped it and ran Windows 11 fine... until it got insanely slow and switched to another more powerful laptop. Anyway, updates are completely fine there (it installed absolutely fine).

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I got Windows 11 running on a fricking Sony VAIO (VPCM13M1E to be exact)
That badass laptop got:
- 1GB of RAM,
- 256 of HDD
- Intel Atom N340 (at 64 bits lmao)
Of course it was really bad, but it was nice to watch

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
This is a nice race for performance. I also prefer not throwing away 10-15 year old laptops/desktops.
Pentium 4 running Win 11 anyone ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQZCWEyUzAM
And while old Semprons in desktop devices can truly still be used as an daily office machine,
old Atoms in Netbooks usually already failed "beeing fun" using Win 7 Home.
When opening explorer and youtube turns into an extreme lagfest, you have crossed the borders. But it worked.
Winhistory has a nice list of Windows systems beeing used on "oldest hardware" :

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I succeeded in putting Windows 11 on a Dell Latitude E4300 from 2008. It's far from the oldest computer in this thread, but it's the oldest 64-bit computer I've got; it has a Core 2 Duo P9400 and 8 GB of RAM. I did manage to dual-boot it with Windows XP x64 Edition, which surprised me. I don't actually know how far back you can go!

ASUS X550 with a core i5-4200H, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and a Intel Graphics with an NVIDIA GeForce 810.

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I ran Windows 11 on a non-full HD Acer laptop which is my main.
Intel Core i3-7020U
12.0 GB
256GB SSD
Intel HD Graphics 620
So far no big performance issues with it, but afterall its working just fine. The OS drive was NVME SSD, and it has the same performance with Windows 10.

I've installed windows 11 on a Thinkpad t400 with a 128gb SSD and 8 gb of ram, it run very well !
I can play PSP without any changes in setting and GameCube a almost 40/45 fps !
And, I can receive updates
I tried to play Euro Truck Simulator 2, but I have some graphics glitches and I can't really drive ... But It can start it !

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
People have run it on older, but it runs just fine on my second PC: an i7-2600K with 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.
At work (I work in a school) it''s found its way onto some 3rd gen i3 Lenovo PCs. It was pushed out to them by mistake (normally Windows 10 would be used), but it turns out it installs just fine via SCCM, seems doing it that way bypasses the checks!

Re: The oldest hardware configuration on which you ran Windows 11?
I can tell you what is the earliest CPU that can run Windows 11: A NetBurst-based processor based on the final revision of NetBurst (Cedar Mill for single core, or Presler for dual-core). List of such processors:
- Pentium 4 HT 6x1
- Pentium D 900 series
- Xeon DP 5000 series
- Xeon MP 7100 series

In theory, some later Pentium 4 will be oldest. But in later canary build seem that CPU needs SSE4 support (not confirmed)

It's also probably possible to install 11 on VIA CPU like the VIA Nano Series, but I don't have that kind of machine to test through.
