Removing timebomb on 2000 RC2 on Alpha
Removing timebomb on 2000 RC2 on Alpha
I'm running 2K RC2 on an AlphaServer DS10, but TweakNT won't launch on it. It just gets hung not responding and no window ever shows up. I'm guessing this is some issue with FX!32, does someone have info on how I can manually do what TweakNT does to remove the timebomb? Thanks.

tl;dr: modify the setupreg.hiv (which is loaded as HKLM\System during textmode setup) in your Win2K RC2 Alpha installation source so that you have 16 zeroed out bytes as the default value under ControlSet001\services\setupdd.
And yes, this does involve reinstalling Windows. Hope it works for Alpha-based systems too!

Not necessarily, you can mount the registry offline and perhaps changing this value would work.

Do you know which value then? Because the fix I described above ONLY works with an installation source and not a live installation.oscareczek wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 6:43 pmNot necessarily, you can mount the registry offline and perhaps changing this value would work.

Thanks! Note for anyone else doing this: Alpha Windows CDs aren't bootable.
