Trying to Boot Windows 10 Mobile x86 in VMware

Post by WinXPFan »

Downloaded VHD from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-Kop_fPbeg
The system won't boot, stuck on the Windows logo in Legacy BIOS. In UEFI, it says "No compatible bootloader found".
I tried mounting the Hard drive in the PC version of Windows 10 Installer's CMD. When I tried the

Code: Select all

bcdboot c:\windows
command it returns with an error:

Code: Select all

Failure while attempting to create boot files.
I even tried marking all partitions ACTIVE, but no result. What should I try?
I love Windows XP!

VB and VMware has totally different VHD management

Then how do I make it boot under UEFI? VirtualBox is extremely slow. VMware is the only fastest hypervisor I know.

You can’t. This image was designed to run under Hyper-V in BIOS mode. For some reason it also runs inside VirtualBox.

Maybe create boot files for legacy BIOS under VirtualBox, then it'll boot in VMware?
I just would not enable Hyper-V, it'll break VMware's functionality...

It should already have the boot files. No modification is required besides converting the vhd to vmdk.

And after you convert it to VMDK, will it boot?

Not sure. I have not tried this.
