Installation Issues - Windows NT 3.51 Workstation on Qemu

Post by TheWindowsFan1223 »

Hello everyone out there! I have installed QEMU 2.5.0 on my host system, Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, and I cannot install the guest OS in QEMU.
Using qemu-img I have created a 500MB, 600MB, and 1GB image, in QCOW format.
When I start QEMU I start the emulated system with a floppy image of MS-DOS 6.0, however when I start the installation with the following command in DOS:
R:\I386\WINNT.EXE /B
I get a prompt after the question of install files. and it says (I will post the error message in Spanish because it is my native language)

Which translates to:
Windows NT requires a hard disk volume with a minimum of 69 MB (72400320 bytes) of available disk space. The installation will use part of that space to store temporary files during the installation.

The drive must be on a local Windows NT compatible hard drive and must not be a compressed drive.

The installation program could not find a drive with enough required disk space.

The installation program cannot continue. Press ENTER to exit.

Someone can help me, please?
Here are the details of my host system:
Host OS: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS i386
QEMU Version: 2.5.0 (1:2.5+dfsg-5ubuntu10.51)
qemu-img version: qemu-img version 2.5.0 (1:2.5+dfsg-5ubuntu10.51)
Guest OS: Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Spanish, downloaded from winworldpc.com.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, if you start setup from DOS, you need to prepare the hard disk first (FDISK and FORMAT).

Apparently your VM can not find the Virtual Disk.
I suggest Go to VM setup -> IDE Disk 1 and check carefully for these parameters, especially
the source path where your Virtual HDD file is supposed to be.

Source path: /var/lib/libvirt/images/your_virtual_HDD.qcow2
Readonly: unchecked box
Shareable: unckecked box
Disk Bus: IDE
Serial Number:
Storage format: qcow2
Cache mode: default
IO mode: default
IO Tuning: Do not input parameters here.
