I wonder why 5098 gets a 7/10 whereas 5112 gets a 10/10 even though 5098 predates 5112 by a good while and has major differences compared to 5048.

Besides, the core of the 5000 builds would be interesting but, of course, not the UI.

Actually, your right! I have swapped the ratings of those builds. 5098 is now a 10/10 and 5112 is a 7/10. I'm mostly rating this by the most interesting aspect of a build for me - UI. So keep that in mind while looking at the logic behind my scores. :)

oh hey, someone else is attempting this. i installed all pre-reset, reset, post-reset on vmware a while back (using 12 with sometimes 6.0x and 6.5x compat) and it took a lot of time. i did explore differences between them too. basically around 12-13 hour sessions where i just installed all of them back to back, explored each one, and even enabled dwm (with the only exception being 5098, 5112) those require a lddm driver (needed a real machine).

it is somewhat interesting, though i do prefer win7's early builds to be more interesting. this was still a pretty large journey. i hope you succeed, my only recommendation is that you use compatibility modes of 12.x and below, as these builds tend to be far more problematic on especially 15.x and 16.x compat.

oh and some builds might appear to be a waste of time, due to how close their build numbers are, it doesn't seem like there are visible differences between them.

also on 3790.1232 you can add missing files from xp and do d:\i386 twice during the install when it asks, if you want to have the visuals like theme, wallpapers etc. keep in mind that this will also trigger a zero day activation payload.

Sorry for leaving you hanging on a reply for so long. Hopefully you still see it :)

I can't believe someone else would actually attempt this, good on you! This sure does take a LOT of time.
I have been using 6.5-7x compatibility on just about any build except 3790-5001.
I will definitely have to try doing this with Windows 7 at some point, although the Bluepill stuff for unlocking many of the new features is quite confusing. I en-devour to learn nevertheless! However, I don't know if I want to go straight to Windows 7 right after this is done. (Which might be awhile as I am currently taking a break).

Some builds are definitely a waste of time feature-wise, but that's not really the point of this project. My (pretty far off) goal is to have just about any windows beta on-hand if I need it for anything.

As for build 3790, I'm sure I could get it running "properly" with enough time, but it's honestly too boring to me to care much about it enough to actually do that. I might come back to it, but that is very unlikely.

One last note about DWM:
I was able to get it running on build 5098 but that was IT. I'm not sure if I physically NEED an older version of VMware workstation or not, but using compatibility and older drivers I still just could not get it running. Maybe you could provide some assistance?

This is neat, I'm working on something kind of similar myself, but my goal is to collect all the different wallpapers and versions of programs and stuff like that in one file

It looks like a pretty major build, but I don't see anything that looked "special" about it besides the new features like Windows Mail and Antispyware. What is so special about it?

The ".x" in any build doesn't show up anywhere. No idea why.

I see now, it's the first build to have the start orb! I should have compared it to the previous build sooner. :)

Just checked BetaWiki and it is pretty cool! Unfortunately I've had a good amount of trouble getting dwm to enable on any build other than 5048, even with compatibility set to 6.5-7x. I suspect I need VMware 12 or earlier for it to work.
What's worse, I couldn't even change the resolution in this build! The slider simply didn't let me move it from the lowest setting. I only had this problem in 5259 and 5259.3.

Hello colleagues. On VMVare I installed almost all assemblies that have leaked into the network. The VM version is not higher than 12, and builds 53..55 .. compatibility is not higher than 9. I want to provide some screenshots for your consideration
