5.0.1999

This works too. Beta 3 build. Resembles the RTM very closely. There's a bug where the text I-beam cursor sticks around perpetually on the desktop, but it only happens on the local console and not over Terminal Services. The Start Menu banner also changes to "Windows 2000 Terminal" from "Windows 2000 Data Center" when connecting over Terminal Services. Desktop watermark is only present on the local console and not over Terminal Services.

Also, this build has a hard timebomb and has to be installed with your BIOS date set to 1999.

Pretty stable build. Too bad the whole project was scrapped at the last minute.

Isn't it pretty obvious that this is a Windows 2000 build? This is something you can easily find from a Google or a forum search and one would expect you to make this effort before posting.

As you can tell, it looks to be a DEC Build of Windows 2000 before they scrapped it. Its a shame they scrapped everything but x86 (and Itanium?) on RTM. Especially if its so close to RTM anyway, why didn't they just bother to release it!

Because Compaq dropped out of their partnership with Microsoft to ship and support Windows on Alpha workstations.
