[REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
I can't confirm this version's authenticity. Can someone provide a download of this version of IBM (PC) DOS?

Doesn't appear to be uploaded anywhere from what I searched, but there are two listings on ebay right now if anyone has a floppy drive and wants to spend the money to dump it.

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
Not to bump the topic or anything, but I would really appreciate if someone could give us the downloads for this release. There was a discussion about this on WinWorld but it got closed, and we did not get anything.
Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
Are you in a hurry? Approaching a project deadline? Losing too much money?
If these are not in the FTP and no one shared them before, it means either none of the members here have them, or they do but don't want to share, or can't share them right now.
You are more than welcome to find a way to buy one from the links you posted above (maybe ask your parents or a friend?).
Otherwise sit back and wait... I'm sure it's ok to bump a topic every now and then, but I'd recommend to not over do it.

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
I think someone had uploaded it but a sad person deleted it with some uploads. I'm not in a hurry to get it, but this is the only place I can think of where someone could have it.
Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
I/We did get the requested version, but it was preinstalled disk images and not the actual setup disks.Windowsbegood wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 3:54 pmNot to bump the topic or anything, but I would really appreciate if someone could give us the downloads for this release. Also, sorry for bumping the topic again.

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
The IBM DOS 5.001 was upgraded several times. All of the disk images have files from the date given here, as well as earlier and later ones. In essence, it's 5.00 with assorted bug fixes applied.
One i pulled from a PS/1 has 91/05/09, 91/11/29 and 92/02/28
Another one adds 1992/09/11 (command.com, mode.com)
I have not come across a version with a single date at the moment. But I should believe it's a CS2 edition (corrective services 2 = fixpack 2).
Listed below are the DOS 5.0 service diskettes and when they were available:
The dates look like the files have been touched as far as UR36603.

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
So CSD UR36603 is not the original 5.00.1?

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
It's hard to tell. The fixes were to untangle dos from the IBMPC. Its mostly dos 5.00, with a fragment teplaced. I have about five versions of it, with patches from all pf these UR releases.

Are we gonna do anything?

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
I've got one through ebay, a 5.00.1 upgrade. We shall see what it comes to when it hits the ground. It has 720 kb diskettes, and some of the proggies read this to a 1440 image.

“Upgrade” such as you need to upgrade it from a previous version?

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
No, all you need is a bootable disk. Upgrades are for computers that already have a formatted partition, even with DOS 5.00.1. There are plenty of dos 5.00.1 floating, but even if you install msdos 6.22, or build the disk with fdisk/format from msdos, or pcdos, you can install this beastie.
Upgrades are better in that they install from the network, ie a cdrom. Base versions, as a rule, don't.
I found the upload guide after a lot of dead-ends. It really needs a redirect sticky up in one of the top three posts. Tutorials is often off the screen, and I did not see it. Anyway, I made it into a 14-page PDF file as well.

I have 2 and 3 of the ebay listing above. Plan is to upload #2 when it arrives in september. I'm told the pony express has it.

Re: [REQUEST] IBM DOS 5.00.1 (5.00 Revision 1)
It is currently in and successfully imaged. The file date is the 920228 version.
PC-DOS 5 evolved from an OEM DOS for "IBM computers", first into one for "IBM clones" such as the PS/1, and then into a "retail DOS". The diskettes in this set is the first 'retail DOS' version, which is 36603 level. This means therw were two further corrective service diskettes released after this DOS.
The full set of updates (file by date directory) is also prepared, so that one might see what version of DOS this or that is.
The QBASIC in OS/2 is identical to the 5.00.1 version, some point after the Basic routines have been detangled from using Int 18 calls.
In the release I plan to include, separately, the IBMDOS icon from IBM-DOS 6, which exactly matches the logo on the box. A boxed version is at hand, but i don't plan to open it.
I've compared it with the various files of 5.00.1 extracted from PS/1 tapes, etc, there are 42 files not present in the PS/1 tapes, these for the most part have a simple copyright from 1991 to 1992 change. Command.com seems to be wildly different. There are two sets of CSD that apply to both copies. The SI directory contains the complete application of the CSDs on hand to PC-DOS 5.00 (ie the IBM one using rom-basic), has a number of different files, mostly due to the two CSD releases and the 1991-1992 copyright issue.
The subversion change is clearly visible in ibmbio.com.

ibm dos 5.00.1 uploaded
The file contains the diskettes, the DOS 6.00 icon (which matches the logo on the cover of the box), scans of the cd-fronts, and two directories of files replaced by CSD fixes.

Could you perhaps do proper scans of this so we can archive it on the FTP?
Thanks.
Thanks.
