Hello,

I'm new here, so please bear with my noobynest.

I saw a post about what emulator to use to test/try different beta and abandonware stuff available here. That's fine. I also noticed the "Application and games/Applications" forum section. But I don't seem to find anything specific for old emulators, beta, abandonware, or otherwise.

I'm into software preservation in general (apps, games, BIOS, firmware, OS) and emulators preservation specifically, emulators running exclusively on the DOS/Windows platform. Emulators for:

-Arcade
-Video game consoles
-Computers (minicomputers, microcomputers, mainframe, terminals)
-Devices (PDA, mobile phone, calculator, CPU, sound chip, microcontroller, electronic games)
-Game engine (ScummVM, GZDoom, ResidualVM)
-Virtual machines (Chip-8, Chip-16, IBNIZ, Liko-12, Pico-8, TIC-80, Voxatron)

I'm looking for a forum section to discuss anything and everything since the very first Enigma emulator running on the Colossus in 1941! More seriously, I'm looking for stuff from around 1991 and up. The period from 1990 to 2000 is of very significant importance as many emulators from that era are simply not available anymore.

IMPORTANT: With this post I'm not requesting for any emulators or files. Just looking for where to direct my attention in the forum and to find others who share my emulator hobby.

Interesting read: https://kaluszka.com/vt/emulation/history.html

Thanks,
Ramon

I don't know if you're interested, but you can find loads of old emulator stuff on Wayback:

I've found a lot of older emulators and stuff about emulators like this.

Hello Crosma,

The Wayback machine has been part of my investigating routine for quite some time now! Since its very inception actually. Every emulator original web page in my collection is saved locally on my server for posterity. Retrieving old emulators that way is often hit and miss unfortunately. Also, Wayback doesn't preserve FTP, HTTP only and a lot of the older stuff was on FTP.

You might be interested by this link, unless you already knew. Direct from Wayback, no old sites!: https://archive.org/details/softwarecapsules

There is also the far less reputable https://archive.today (archive.md , archive.ph)) . Note that this site is unreachable if you use Cloudflare for your DNS (1.1.1.1). I use Opera browser builtin VPN to go around this limitation as I use cloudflare on my Pi-hole DNS server VM that runs on top of my seedbox on my NAS.

When everything else fails, I also use Google cache, but that's only good for relatively recent links.

I guess what I'm looking for is someone who also collect emulators and would be willing to share and exchange stuff from the 1990-2000 era, especially the very first version of any emulator (unreleased, alpha, beta, prototype etc...) and/or version 1.0 of said emulators. I do not collect sources, unless it's the only version available.

I'll put together 7 lists of all the emulators I currently have in my collection, one list for each type: Arcade, Console, Device, Game Engine, Multi, Virtual Machines and Computer. The Console list is ready. I can't seem to be able to attach a file with the post so here the Mediafire link for you to take a look at: https://www.mediafire.com/file/0xscfbnfyn4k66u

Note that this is a dump of my hard drive "Console" emulators folder, with only the "OLD" subfolder of each. Which mean the latest/current emulators are not displayed, but everything older than current are.

Thanks,
Ramon
