Latitude E6430 Windows 2000

Post by .NETLover3790 »

Just for fun, I decided to install Windows 2000 on my Latitude E6430. The first phase of setup went fine (with the F7 bypass of ACPI and the SATA operation set to ATA to prevent a BSOD), but when I rebooted into the graphical portion of setup, it booted up just fine, except the keyboard and mouse (a touchpad+ trackpoint in this case) would not function, and an error with "USB20.SYS" came up while installing devices. Without the keyboard and mouse, I could not continue through setup. This is weird considering I'd assume the built-in devices would be standard PS/2 (and if they are USB, there's no USB 1.1 compatibility mode).

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

You can integrate drivers with nLite

Well I had the general idea of doing that but I'm not sure which drivers to integrate - the machine supports Windows XP at earliest so I can try that, but I'm still not even sure which drivers I'd put in.

IIRC the BIOS on Dell laptops has some setting about "legacy PS/2 support" or something... try enabling that
I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA
