Timebomb.

You must find a way to set the date/time back to something around this build's time period.

Which is difficult under Virtualbox. You may need to use a dos floppy with the date command.

Try SATA with a different VM program. VMware is more recommended with betas than VirtualBox. And, changing the BIOS date on VMware is much easier than VirtualBox.

Use VMware.
Also, don't forget to set the BIOS date to 2nd January 2012, and disable time sync.

Windows 8 builds work perfectly fine in VirtualBox, so you may use that hypervisor. Like MCpillager12 said, you'll just need to set the BIOS date to the correct date for the build you want to install, in this case build 8195, which the BIOS date is 1/12/12. And change the hard drive format to SATA, because IDE is only for Windows versions prior to Longhorn.

Windows doesn't care if it's IDE or sata. Virtualbox will emulate both devices at the exact same speed.
If it was a storage controller issue then op would never passed first stage.

I suggested a dos boot floppy and use date command to change the date to prior to the timebomb.
