Chicago 58s in 16:9 1080p, possible?

Post by MotorolaFLARE »

Hi everyone,
I wanted to make a YT video about Chicago 58s and i wanted to display it in 16:9 instead of the usual 4:3 aspect ratio, but it only supports VGA so,
Has anyone tried to display Chicago in 16:9(Without Stretching) successfully?

(i'm using 86box if are asking)

Unless you feel like writing a driver for a graphics adapter that does support that resolution, 1024x768 at most will have to do.

That and it would likely be easier just to capture your whole desktop. Just make sure you do it with Chicago being full screen if possible so people can see it. You can get 1080p with 95 and 98 but good luck with anything before that. You could try VMware but no guarantees.

IIRC I might be able to get 1280x1024 with it, as my Compaq Presario 575's QVision hardware supports it, and I know that the Windows 3.1 drivers WILL work on 58s, but I gotta check if the 3.1 drivers support it. I know for sure that the 95 ones do.

If it is able to support 1080p at all, I'd be very surprised.

With a PCI Matrox Millennium G200 card, it's actually possible to run Windows 3.1 at 1600x1200 resolution in 64K colors. However, I wouldn't entirely place my bets that it would work with such early Chicago builds without running into problems, but it's likely possible if you know what you're doing. Here's a video demonstrating this card:

Wouldn't Display Doctor work on Chicago? I'm not sure how far back it goes, since it does work on Win98 and 95

Display Doctor doesn't work on 58s.

I think some Nvidia RIVA cards still support Windows 3.1. Since many 3.1 drivers seem to work, and the TNT2 can output 1920x1200, perhaps that could be a way to do it?
