[REQUEST] HP Pavilion 4440 Recovery Media

Post by longhornwhistler »

Hey y'all!
I'm looking for recovery media for my HP Pavilion 4440. It's something I haven't been able to find online very well so I was wondering if someone here had it.

What version of Windows and its edition? This will be crucial.

Doing a quick google search, looks like he may be looking for Windows 98, now the question is if its Win 98 or Win98SE to narrow it down even more.

I'm looking for either Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE. I don't really care which as long as it works :)

It might be general like "Pavilion 4000 Series"

I haven't had no luck finding any online sources to download the original restore media from but however, I did find a website that supposedly has restore media that a person can purchase for $49.99. I find it odd they have every restore media for every model out there (whoever owns the website must be a very avid model collector for every restore media), im wondering if its just the OS image it self and that's it.

It likely is just the OS image. I honestly don't trust sites like that very much.

Those 'system restore' cds you find randomly on sites are almost always just generic Windows PE repair discs.

Don't waste your money on anything recovery disc-wise. They are all fakes and they send you a crappy copy of a Windows installation disc of Windows 7/8.1/10 that was probably downloaded via torrent. Why don't you check the archive.org software collection? There could be something useful.

I’ve checked there a couple of times but haven’t found anything. It would be nice if someone here had that machine with the recovery disc still intact.

I found a copy on eBay at one point but I didn’t have the cash to get it.

Those might be legitimate. If you can share the webpage, maybe I can check it out. Until then, you might want to save up.

win 98 has a general differnt key system then >=win2000
the Product Type (key) only obtain on the setupx.dll (Precopy2.cab)
the Product Type is hardcoded
if you have a OEM Key you need a
Type 115 OEM (full bootable)
or
Type 116 OEM (Companion - non bootable)
usual all OEM are of type 115

for re-installation you can use a normal M$ cd type 115
if your key dont work try 116 + Floppy Boot
if your labtop dont have a floppy the 116 type must be manual recompile with a boot sector

NOTE: the SHA1 for the dumped iso (BA has usual overdumped hashes)

maybe try this cd's first,
most OEM vendors use this 115/116 OEM images (they only add some extras (or not)
somtimes they just change the bootsector (1.44 floppy sector) to support the CDROM-Hardware - if the cd dont boot on HP Pavilion
it is no problem to change the boot sector

I mainly need it for the drivers because the drivers seem to be nonexistent online because of the age of the hardware and because HP deletes all support topics and drivers for unsupported products. If anyone can find drivers that would be amazing :)

yep,
[hp_]4440.zip
loocks ok - see the .inf files if you need this driver / if you have this hardware

HP_SiS_5598_113_win98.zip
loocks also ok (but is not HP-original) - if your laptop has a sis chip for the display you can use it
if you dont have a SiS-chip dont use it
i suggest just install the inf first (and not the whole SiS Multimedia Package)
