Possible leftover "please wait" message

Post by iProgramInCpp »

Steps to reproduce:
Step 1: Use the SETHC.EXE bug
Step 2: Wait till Windows is no longer allowing you to logon
Step 3: Click on YES at the message box which asks you if you want to activate Windows.
Step 4: Use SETHC.EXE and type "shutdown -s -t 5"
Step 5: Ta-da!

Discovered this in Windows XP Mode N.

That's not beta. I've seen XP say please wait before.

Very interesting find. Can this be done with other editions?
Legends say if you read this signature, you'll come across good fortune. Lucky you!

I don't think this is a leftover as i seen some threads on other forums that people got stuck on that screen while updating their service packs.

Very likely. Another way to shut down with the please wait message is to shutdown while the user account is being loaded.

SetHC.exe bug is performed by replacing it with cmd.exe.

Step 1: perform the bug
Step 2: write "shutdown -s -t 1"
Step 3: quickly load the user again

It's actually easier than to wait for your license to expire or try to trick Windows into thinking your license has expired. Windows can't be tricked like that if you have a VL/VOL disc rather than a normal disc.

No, changing the behavior of the system by replacing one of its components really isn't a bug. It's like formatting your hard disk, installing Ubuntu and calling that a "format bug".
AlphaBeta, stop brainwashing me immediately!
