Windows 95 title bars
Windows 95 title bars
Hi
Was there any mod which would let user to set gradient bar for every window in Windows 95 just like in Win98?
I know there were applications using their own set (especially navy to black) and it was actually possible to render it back then.

Not that I know of. This possibility was introduced by Windows 98.KNN wrote:Hi

Yeah, still it is possible in Win95 to draw it.

Pretty much any OS can draw a gradient to the screen, but if the code isn't there in the shell, then there's just not gonna be a way to do it without porting something over from a shell that has this functionality.KNN wrote:Yeah, still it is possible in Win95 to draw it.

I thought such mod exist already or existed somewhere, like based on old beta build where it was going to be implemented etc.

Didn't Office 95 have a gradient on Windows 95?

Re: Windows 95 title bars
I understood the question to be "I know some Win95 applications draw gradient title bars, so is this a built-in capability of Windows 95?".Overdoze wrote:Didn't Office 95 have a gradient on Windows 95?
The answer is "no". If your Win95 app wants a gradient title bar, it must draw it by itself, just like Office 95 apps did.
(which is why, if you run Office 95 on a recent version of Windows, title bars are drawn quite horridly)

Re: Windows 95 title bars
Is that even possible to install Office 95 on a modern version of Windows NT like Vista, 7, or 8.x?
Re: Windows 95 title bars
Yes, but it ain't pretty. Sometimes you come across various glitches.gtgamer468 wrote:Is that even possible to install Office 95 on a modern version of Windows NT like Vista, 7, or 8.x?
Surprisingly enough, 16 bit Windows apps, even those designed for Windows 1.x/2.x, seem to create few problems.

Re: Windows 95 title bars
From my own experiments done years ago, I can tell you that the gradients are done by USER.EXE, and you can't replace it with a Windows 98 beta one, as you'd then have to replace essentially the entire kernel (so a lot of .EXE's and .DLL's) with a Windows 98 beta one.

Interesting, I'll find out if any of the cosmetic mods out there actually work and report back!
