How to install vmware tools on LH 4029?

Hello everyone!

I successfully installed Windows Longhorn Build 4029 on vmware.
However, the installation of vmware tools fail with this messege:

Code: Select all

Setup was unable to upgrade the Windows Installer.

Is there a way to install vmware tools on beta builds?

P.S. This issue happened at windows whistler too.

It's possible for sure. However, it's pretty difficult.

Add dword CSDVersion to 100 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows and then run the installer 3.1 under xp compat. Installer 3.1 for xp is still available for download.

I think that for successfully installing VMware Tools in a Longhorn Build it should be done through something called Hounsell's kit or something like that, but I'm not sure.

Try old VMware tools or try to install with compatibility mode

Drivers can be extracted via 7-zip and manually installed from Windows XP

With the video driver, not all OS rolled, there were problems. I can post an image with drivers.
