[REQUEST] Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 for DEC Alpha AXP

I am looking for this release that was probably specifically made for the DECpc AXP 150 for some time now.

If anyone has this, a proper release on BA would be awesome, but I would be happy with ISO file as well.

I am looking for any kind of release, as I do not know how this was released.

I just know that it was released several months after NT 3.1 came out (for x86 and MIPS) and that it had to be ordered from Microsoft. I think there was a voucher for that in the NT 3.1 boxes.

The Alpha port of NT 3.1 was released as part of build 528.1 from September 1993, two months after build 511.1, the first RTM from July 1993. I think 528 should be on the FTP already, so if it's a full CD, it should contain the Alpha folder. "Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 Workstation (3.10.528.1) [English] (CD)" should be worth checking out.

Winhistory.de also shows a picture of a CD of Windows NT 3.1 that contains only the /ALPHA folder (at least it claims that on the CD). Unfortunately the owner never shares any of his stuff because this CD is unleaked as far as I know.

Yeah, I have also seen this pic. It would be really cool to have this release.

(On a different note: I still do not get the usage of the word "leaked" on BA. I mean, this was not some restricted in-house beta, this was an official release. It was released. To the public. In my sense, there is no need to leak things that are already out there. It may be lost by today, but still....)

What is interesting is that all the files on said release on the FTP date to 08.03.1994.

There were some later releases (service packs, etc.) which kept the 528 build number but had newer file dates and additional fixes. "Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 Workstation (3.10.511.1) (1993-09-11) [English] (3.5''-1.44MB)" is the floppy release of 528 Workstation from September 1993, just mislabeled as 511.

I have a folder dump of 528 Workstation dated 11th September 1993, I just need to recreate the ISO and upload it when I find time. Unfortunately, it appears to be only the i386 folder, no other platforms.

I think the combo SDK/DDK for 3.1 has the Alpha in there.

It was such a rare thing too. When it was relevant a friend with an Alpha ordered the 3.1 NT set, then a Dec branded 3.5 set. The 3.5 arrived like a month sooner. I don't think he even installed 3.1 .. But there is no way he has any of that old stuff

It really doesn't, because original stuff is clearly marked as such by mrpijey, and unoriginal is never marked as original. Of course, if you don't actually look at release_info.txt to check, that's your problem and yours alone. I've done this for several years now with no official complaint from mrpijey, and it has made several rare titles preserved and available on the FTP, as they remain otherwise unavailable in physical form. And they can always be replaced with a proper dump later on.

the file DISK2 is dated 11/01/1993 09:28 PM, while the folders are dated 06/14/1994. The Alpha directory & files are dated almost all from 11/0/1993 except for:

It's worth noting that the same files have been updated on the i386 & MIPS as well.

The C compiler is present for the MIPS & Dec Alpha, with the i386 already removed (why on earth did they do that?) you'll need the 'Final Win32 SDK' for the NT 3.1 C compiler, or Visual C++ 1.0 32bit edition.

but this is only helpful if you really want to run NT 3.1 on an Alpha, otherwise, yeah it's not the OEM'd DEC CD kit.

I have this CD specially made for the Digital Alpha AXP 150 (Jensen), Windows NT 3.1 Beta 2 (438). I made an ISO image from it and some pictures, but sold the disc.

I you want I can upload/provide the ISO image of the disk. It also contains a C-compiler and some demo applications specific for the Alpha CPU.

I downloaded the en_winnt_3.10_ResourceKit_19930916_3.10.511.1 file and for some reason my version of WinRAR claims the archive is unknown format or damaged. When I tried to repair the archive winRAR states an 'Unexpected end of archive' error.

It works fine for me with WinRAR 5.70. You should try redownloading it in case it got corrupted along the way.
