Chicago Build 73g floppy problems

Post by ATeamInc »

Under build 73g (and the dos version 7.0 it uses), the floppy has some really weird problems:
Image
I am suspecting the problem is due to 32 bit disk access (which I can't find a way to disable) since the drive works just fine under dos 5 (considering I installed chicago from a dos 5 boot disk).
System running under 86box (Award 386DX clone, no useful bios settings to solve the problem) and both the files and buffers are set to 90 under config.sys (Although CAB32.EXE never complained when both were set to 30)
EDIT: Whoops, this is build 73f

It's because of the 32-bit floppy driver being buggy in those builds (58s, 73f, 73g, 81).

Any solution?

No, unless you may want to write a new one from scratch.

And what would replacing the driver from newer builds do? I'd like to test that out (if you know the files that need replacement. And no thanks I won't write a new floppy driver from scratch. If I even wanted to, I don't even know how to that :P )

Well, try using hsflop.pdr from 90c/99/116/whatever.

Thanks for the nonexistent filename :P . Anyways, I replaced all .pdrs and that causes it to hang strangely, and replacing nec.pdr causes the system to suddenly switch to a black dos cursor when trying to access the floppy. I guess I can't be a microsoft internal tester guy who's in 1993 properly :( .

Well, hsflop.pdr is located in the iosubsys folder.
Edit: These builds are very picky, and exchanging a floppy driver with a newer or older build can lead to such hang. I'd recommend installing the build from scratch, but this time use a SCSI CD-ROM connected to the Adaptec 154x ISA adapter under 86box, it's much more reliable.
