Porting Windows 10 build 9841 Start Menu to Windows 8

Post by gtgamer468 »

I've been wanted to do this project since Microsoft removed the first Start Menu during Technical Preview 2 of Windows 10. Microsoft did mention that the codes are Windows 8-based so I think it's possible. All I want is to use the Start Menu and switch it back to the Start Screen. I have a copy of the iso file in handy just for this purpose. I also wanted to window the Metro apps as well.

Splitwirez, you have a new program not a port.

Guy wants a port which will involve a bit of modding.
Now, there is a paid program that allows metro windowing. Modernmix by Stardock.
Tad glitchy, but works. Sadly, the key word again is paid.

I was thinking modding the dwm for the windowed apps. Also, I was thinking about recoding the muis to remove the timestamps.

Yeah, I know.

My bad, I hadn't realized gtgamer468 cared about how it was done, as long as it happened. Guess I thought the bit about the Windows 8-era Technologies was meant as "maybe this would be of use for anyone who wants to help me do this", not "here's how I want us to do this". Sorry about that :C

When I want windowed Metro apps, I also want the menu that opens the Charms bar. What I'm trying to achieve here is porting the features from this build (9841) into Windows 8.1 like the ability to switch between the Start Menu and Start Screen.

Actually it was ported to RT as a update named 8.1 Update 3... But such thing did not exist in x86/x64.

I really don't mind if we could start a project to do such things. In the process, I'm even considering on adding a notification panel that was experimental at the time period that later became Action Center in Windows 10.
