Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
As I recently acquired an AlphaStation 255, I am playing around with Windows NT for Alpha AXP a lot. As there is not a lot of software available that natively runs on this platform, I am trying to do a list of everything that was ever released.
So far I know of these
Microsoft VisualStudio 6.0 (and some older versions)
Microsoft Word 97 (and some older versions)
Microsoft Excel 97 (and some older versions)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0
WinImage 7.0 (and some older versions)
Calamus 1.5
LightWave 4.0
WinAMP 2.09
UnRAR
And of course FX!32, but that probably goes under system tools.

Re: Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
I have an alpha as well, (last year when I tried it though, it would routinely BSOD after a few minutes running, so haven't used it recently, will have to dig it out again).
You can run the various servers that run under windows NT, SQL, Exchange, IIS, Terminal, etc.. (Service packs are more difficult to find, I found some on university ftp sites).
A lot of windows 3.1 stuff ran ok.
You can also run other OS's on it, I had true 64 HP's Unix running on it, as well as Linux and *BSD. You might need to switch the bios to the original one, you can download a file that you can write to a floppy disk to switch between them.

Re: Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
Well I need to be a bit more precise, I guess: I want to build a list of all 32 bit NT applications for DEC Alpha AXP here.
(My Alphastation came with SRM installed but I switched it to AlphaBIOS because the only reason why I got this computer is to be able to run NT Alpha on real hardware. But that is not the topic here.)

Re: Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
There is a version of Watcom C/C++ for the Dec Alpha, although I've only seen it in source form in the original Open Watcom dumps.
I guess you can build a cross compiler and try to build a native compiler.
Wasn't there a Mathmatica for the Alpha? You already have the one heavyweight, Lightwave.

Thank you louisw3! It would be awesome to get that original Watcom compiler. Perhaps it shows up somewhere someday.

There's a couple of progs here for the Alpha system
The first one is "FX32 Version 1.1 x86 emulator for alpha-nt"

Re: Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
That's actually version 1.2. All versions from 1.0 to 1.5 are on the FTP, as are a couple betas.TheOtherGuy wrote:There's a couple of progs here for the Alpha system

Backoffice SBS was made for the Alpha systems as well apparently.
Re: Software for Windows NT on Alpha AXP systems
Tenox built Crimson Editor and Metapad for Alpha AXP NT as well.

Nice, now it will be preserved for all the future AlphaNT tinkerers I'll have to learn how to upload to archive.org, so I can push more Alpha bits from my archive there.silasqwerty1 wrote:Thank you for the link!
