Exotic and outstanding Whistler/XP builds?

Post by TL7 »

What are some builds and versions with rare features or exotic properties?
Some Longhorn pre-reset builds have exotic features?

What are some unknown Whistler builds among their unusual features that do not exist in official builds? Or maybe even older unheard Windows versions?

  • Builds 2257 and 2419 has their own boot screens
  • Build 2428 is the first to use the Luna theme
  • Build 2211 through 2250 is known to have many features from Neptune.
If you want something close to the final, try 2428. If you want the best build with Watercolor theme, try 2416 or 2419. 2416 is the last build that does not have WPA.

I would have to say from between build 2250 and build 2419. This range of builds included the Watercolour theme which would never be seen after 2419.

For other significant builds, build 2211 has a unique watermark that says "Whistler Windows 2001 Professional" and also had a new control panel which contained graphics from ME Beta 2.
Build 2223 has a Neptune-style Welcome screen which would be used up to build 2296.
Build 2250 has a few Windows 2000 references left. It also has a start menu (disabled by default) that looks very similar to the final start menu first seen in 2419.
Build 2465 is also outstanding to me as it was the first build to be called XP, even though many Whistler references were still included; Even the bootscreen is still from Whistler 2428.

Server build 2464.

It has final style Help and Support Center and Remote Desktop Connection window, whilst still retaining 2428 style Luna.

And by the way, Help and Support contains a reference to the Windows XP name. (As in XP, not Whistler)

I would love build 2415 lab06, but it's unleaked. Otherwise, build 2428 is the closest earliest to RTM IMO.

I believe it's 2419 that has two unique themes as well: Blue Lagoon and Chartreuse Mongoose--the latter of which is probably the ugliest theme I've ever seen, lol.

Build 2430 has the Luna theme but with dropshadows.
That build is functionally identical to build 2428.

.
What are some of these exclusive Neptune features, if I may ask?

How do you know about it then, if it is unleaked? :)

I have looked up Chartreuse Mongoose Windows, and the Build 2410 apparently also includes that theme.

In beta collecting rings, unleaked means that the build is known to exist in private collections, but is not available publicly. The act of making it available to the general public (i.e. uploading to the BA FTP) is called leaking.

Exotic builds are 2465 (which is the first to have the final Windows XP Luna theme only with blue and first to be named Windows XP), 2469 and 2474/2475 (for Windows XP waving flag logo at logon screen)

Also try build 2428, first with Luna theme and the unique toolbar icons in Windows Explorer and IE.
