Have you tried it? And we have one more that doesn't have any machine tag on it. Remember, there's no special software for the Pro or anything, they are all identical except for an identifying tag in the installer (which can be circumvented).

There actually are additional kernel extensions in that restore media to support the 8600M GT in the machine. Those extensions are not present in any other builds/disks. Updates such as the 10.4.11 update don't seem to contain those either.

if you install this update on any 10.4.11 install https://support.apple.com/kb/dl180?locale=en_US
it should give you fully working graphics when booted on a MacBook Pro 3,1 as it contains the complete driver set needed for NVIDIA GeForce G8x based cards
(I have personally tested this on a MacBookPro3,1) But i noticed that once you apply the update it breaks compatibility with older Graphics cards like the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT and intel GMA 950.
