Windows XP MCE UR2 refuses to install

Post by SistemaRayoXP »

The Update Rollup 2 of Windows XP Media Center Edition refuses to install. I know which are some of the prerequisites:
Windows XP MCE SP2
.NET Framework 1.0, 1.1 and 1.1 SP1
And something about the version of Media Center

I don't know why. In the beggining, SP2 refused to install, but I think because I pacthed it with a crack (I reinstalled and did't put the crack and worked). Now that I have SP2 installed (I haven't installed the crack yet) the Update Rollup 2 setup cancel by itself. The log File is here:

That seems to be something wrong with the Media Center version number but I've no idea why. Any solution?

Did you disable Data Execution Prevention? I think that worked for me when I installed one of the "Emerald" builds.
If not, try disabling DEP via System Properties.
Also you are not specifing the XP MCE you have.
Update Rollup 2 is designed specifically for XP MCE 2005.
It is not designed for MCE 2002.
Note: "Emerald" is the codename of MCE 2005 UR2.

Ok, I'll disable it. But which is the order of installing updates? I'm using Freestyle and I will search for the required updates but I don't know which ones are

Update: I discovered I must update to Harmony, then to Symphony and last to Emerald, but I'm searching yet how

Find an ISO of XP MCE 2005, rather than updating to MCE 2004 to MCE 2005
At least with the proper MCE 2005, you can install UR2 without that overly complicated update routine
And it comes with XP SP2. Just install that, disable DEP, then you can install UR2.

I feel so stupid, there is actually a Harmony and Symphony ISOs in the server, and I have the UR2 that is Emerald, what happens is that there is no way to update without "reinstall Windows", in other words, put the ISO and install using the update option. What a bad new!
