upgrading FLP to Longhorn 3718

Post by teriaki 511 »

well, i installed FLP on a dual-core laptop, and i decided to try upgrading it to 3718 for kicks, it gets as far as "Installing Windows" with 39 minutes left, stops for about an hour, then says it has problems registering "initpki.dll", looking at the log, it also says "the signature for Windows XP Professional Upgrade is invalid. The error code is 426.". is it possible to do this upgrade?

You cannot Update FLP to LH .

1st : it's a dumb idea to "upgrade" any rtm to any Beta.
2nd: LH before 51xx is not even Beta, it's ALPHA ( read : concept ).
3rd:FLP is technically XPSP2. LH 3xxx is technically XP gold or SP1 max.

also FLP is Windows Embedded, a special kind of XP which needs a bit special treatment and is not so compatible to a "real" XP as one might think.

So, don't do that - you will be frustrated with whatever result.

hey, worth a shot, i like the build tag though... when setup resets from that error, the build tag comes up for a few seconds, "Longhorn XP Embedded",

the only reason i want to upgrade is because my gamecube emulator runs 1/2 to full speed on most games on 64-bit windows, and i really dont want to buy a 64-bit windows for one program

I think some said that because MS hadn't changed it yet, and of course, the only XP with a server core like Longhorn, was Windows XP 64Bit

If you want a 64-bit Windows, you could download the trial for XP Pro x64 or Server 2003 x64. Longhorn 3718 (or any leaked version prior to 4051) is not 64-bit, besides, it is impossible to upgrade from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit one.
Speaking of Windows XP 64-bit, there are three versions: Windows XP for Itanium Version 2002, which has the XP core, XP for Itanium Version 2003 which does indeed have a server core and XP Pro x64, also with a server core.

i tried the demo 64-bit windows xp straight from MS, but it BSODed every 2 seconds from some process called "processr.???" i dont remember the extension, i just have 1 question, does tweaknt get rid of the timebomb in 4074? as i heard somewhere that you cant remove the timebomb in 64-bit windows with it.

The processer device driver (processr.sys) has terminated unexpectedly.
