Hello,
Last week I found Mac OS "Flounder 4.4" on Sony test disks dated 5-July-83. Is this the earliest pre-release of Macintosh Finder or is there any earlier version? If not, why is number 4.4? There should be also versions 1, 2, 3...

The versions linked on http://toastytech.com/guis/twiggy.html only has the August 1983 version, so the version you have might be earlier.

Re: Mac OS Finder pre-release "Flouder"
I was looking on the internet and found this image: http://macgui.com/upload/gallery/f_2/us ... d_4545.jpg
It shows that the first Finder/Flouder was "pre-pre-alpha release" 1.2 released on 8-july-83. Is this build possible to acquire?
By the way: I downloaded images from toastytech; download the zip file on the top of page. It contains disk image Sony16D0.image. It will run in minivmac 128k.
[NOTE] I’m looking for Finder/Flouder with full desktop not with just few buttons and big floppy disk image over all screen as in Flouder 4.4.
